My role involves the management of Assembly business and activities. I work closely with Board members and partners to ensure that our work continues to benefit the people of our region. I also continue in my role as Head of Regional Scrutiny, working with the Regional Scrutiny Board (RSB) and managing the responsibilities for regional scrutiny on behalf of the Assembly. I manage scrutiny reviews to support the Assembly’s constructive and evidence-based 'scrutiny' of East Midlands Development Agency (emda). I ensure the Assembly is provided with independent information, analysis and research to influence the development of regional economic strategy and scrutinise its delivery. I work closely with key stakeholders, such as emda and GOEM and represent the Assembly on the English Region’s Network at regional and national meetings, steering groups and policy consultations to support our role as the ‘voice of the region’.

As Scrutiny Adviser I mainly research and examine the economic policies that shape the East Midlands. I write and develop papers for the Scrutiny Board and manage projects for the scrutiny team. My specialist areas of knowledge are regeneration, economic development and sport & culture. All my work is in close conjunction with other regional bodies like emda, GOEM, the Learning & Skills Council. I help the scrutiny team to remain an effective part of the regional governance process.

I am responsible for co-ordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) (which includes the Regional Transport Strategy), and of the Regional Housing Strategy. I work closely with local authorities and a wide range of partner organisations. I manage the Regional Assembly’s Spatial Planning Team and the resources given by Government to support regional planning, transport and housing work.

I am responsible for the review of the Regional Housing Strategy (RHS) which is currently underway. I also prepare the region’s Housing Investment Strategy, for agreement by regional partners. This determines how the Regional Housing Pot is spent and forms the basis of housing’s input to other processes such as the Regional Funding Allocations. I oversee the allocation of funding to a range of regional and sub-regional research projects which will jointly inform both the RHS review and the housing aspects of the Regional Plan. I also manage the agenda for meetings of the Regional Housing Group and provide briefings and support to the Group’s Chairperson.

My role is supporting the development and implementation of the Regional Energy Strategy. Activities focus on sustainable energy in communities, looking at ways of encouraging low carbon solutions. A large part of this activity is focused on supporting the delivery of low carbon development and renewable energy generation through the planning system. Projects include raising awareness, sharing best practice, sustainable design and construction training and community renewables. There are also close links with housing policy in delivering affordable, low carbon solutions in present housing stock. The sustainable energy agenda is also closely linked the regional work on climate change. I work closely with partners and stakeholders through the Regional Energy Group and its sub-groups.

My role involves leading on the annual production of the State of the Region report which assesses our progress in meeting the Social, Environmental, Spatial and Economic objectives of the Integrated Regional Strategy. The State of the Region report sets the wider context for the RSS Annual Monitoring Report. I also co-ordinate various activities including the Quarterly Return to the Government Office for the East Midlands and Freedom of Information Act responses. I am also responsible for managing, developing and maintaining the Regional Assembly website.

My role involves supporting the development and implementation of environmental policy at the regional level. My activities focus on supporting initiatives which will help increase the environmental capacity of the region within the overall objective of achieving sustainable communities. Projects include raising awareness and sharing best practice through the development of the East Midlands Green Infrastructure Network (EMGIN). They also involve developing a strategic approach to the delivery of Green Infrastructure to complement the work within the Planning System on Growth Areas and Growth Points ongoing at sub-regional and local levels. I am also working to identify future needs for wider environmental infrastructure, such as water, within the planning system. I work closely with environmental partner organisations around the region, particularly through the coordination of the Assembly’s Environment Group, Environment Advisory Groups and the various sub groups working on specific priority work areas.

My role is supporting the East Midlands Biodiversity Forum (EMBF) and the region’s Local Biodiversity Action Partnerships (LBAPs), ensuring that there is communication and linkage between the local, regional and national biodiversity initiatives, in particular the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UKBAP) and England Biodiversity Strategy (EBS), and other appropriate sectors. As well as my role as PA to Andrew Pritchard, I am responsible for the provision of support services to the Planning Department and supporting the work of all Advisers and Directors, to ensure the effective delivery of all clerical and administrative functions. I also act as Events Co-ordinator and ensure the efficient organisation of Assembly events and meetings as requested, liaising with speakers where appropriate and venue co-ordinators. I am also involved with HR Illness reporting and Staff Expense reporting.
