ERN Sustainable Development Projects

English Regions Network (ERN) Sustainable Development Projects

Projects in the East Midlands :

The East Midlands received funding from the English Regions Network (ERN) in January 2002 to commission four projects:

  • Engaging the business sector in sustainable development;
  • Supporting education for sustainable development;
  • Developing a sustainable development web resource; and
  • Improving regional to local connections

The East Midlands is acting as the pilot region for these projects that have been selected for their applicability to all the English regions.

 

The Engaging the Business Sector in Sustainable Development project was completed at the end of March 2003 - the final report is available here 870KB PDF.

 

A draft Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) methodology is currently being piloted in six secondary schools around the region during this school year. The Interim report is available here 110KB PDF. The final report will be available in the autumn.

 

A sustainable development web resource has been developed to form part of the East Midlands Regional Assembly's website. It provides a useful source of information on sustainable development activity in the Region.  Click here to view the website. The final report is available here to download 800KB PDF.

 

The research element of the project to provide guidance on Improving Regional to Local Connections in the East Midlands was completed at the end of March 2003 and a pilot period is now underway. The report is available here 300KB PDF.

 

Pan Regional Projects:

The final report of the Pan-Regional Research into Sustainable Development Frameworks (RSDFs) is now available. The report includes a detailed section on the approach adopted by each of the eight English regions and makes recommendations for the further development and improvement of RSDFs - download here 600KB PDF.

 

The final report of the Pan-Regional Research into Sustainable Development Tools is now available. The report examines five tools in detail: action planning, sustainability appraisal, voluntary agreements, sustainability indicators and scrutiny ø download here 440KB PDF.
