East Midlands Expo
East Midlands Expo is the region’s annual sustainable development event. It is organised by EMRA and key partners in the region to showcase the good work that businesses and other organisations in the region are undertaking for a more sustainable future.
The theme for East Midlands Expo 2006 was ‘Buying for the Future’. Exhibitors included businesses from the construction, energy, food and drink sectors, public and voluntary organisations and universities. The event also hosted the East Midlands Sustainable Construction Conference and several meet the buyer sessions. For more information, click here.
Showcasing Good Practice
The Regional Assembly showcases examples of good practice in sustainable development from around the East Midlands. Behavioural Change
EMRA is currently working with regional partners to investigate how to successfully change behaviour with regards to sustainable development and where it can add value. Work in this area in ongoing. Current and completed projects include;
Addressing Inequalities in the East Midlands
In light of the findings of the State of the Region reports that inequalities still remain in the region, the Regional & communities Policy Board commissioned the Centre for Economic & Social Inclusion to undertake a report to:

Public Procurement
A mapping exercise was undertaken in late 2005/early 2006 to establish the range of public sector sustainable procurement activities underway across the East Midlands This was followed by a more detailed look at:
Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) in Leicester schools
The Eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) is a tool for organisations to use to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance. Leicester City Council adopted EMAS to help manage and improve its own environmental performance this has included encouraging schools within the City’s Local Education Authority to join the Council’s EMAS system.
Sustainable Design Competition
The Sustainable Design Competition took place during 2005. It was an innovative approach to engaging and training practitioners in the sustainable design and building agenda. For more information please click here.
