Environmental Education
Education for Sustainable Development - getting schools and communities actively involved.
Education is one of Groundwork’s largest areas of work; we work withpupils, teachers and the wider community to encourage them to reduce their impact on the environment. It is important that schools get involved because they have a unique role to play in educating the next generation to ensure the protection of our environment.
We work with schools to deliver Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) lessons, that link into the National Curriculum, through classroom and school based activities or by taking pupils out into their local environment. We also deliver a range of adult courses.
We can also assist schools with the extra demands and opportunities arising from the new extended schools policy. This includes providing learning opportunities at school which involve parents and the wider community.
In addition to mainstream education work, we also provide alternative curriculum activities for pupils who are disengaged and at risk of exclusion.
These pupils often benefit significantly from practical environmental activities which help to build confidence, a sense of social responsibility and ultimately, engage pupils with mainstream education.
We believe that our inclusive and innovative approach can deliver enduring benefits for pupils, schools, staff, parents and the planet.
