The East Midlands Expo 2006, held on 12 October at Pride Park was the most successful East Midlands Expo to date with around 750 people attending. The exhibition space was sold out with over 70 exhibitors from the Construction, Energy, Food and Drink sectors, public and voluntary organisations and universities showcasing their work.
The event hosted the East Midlands Sustainable Construction Conference and several meet the buyer sessions. A programme of seminars and workshops ran throughout the day with topics ranging from building your own solar powered toy car to examining new technology to solve waste problems in the region.

There was an impressive line-up of speakers which included, Pat Zadora (Vice Chair of EMRA), Jane Todd (Director of GOEM), Valerie Dwyer (Board member of emda), Barbara Morton (Defra) and Andrew Lee (Director of the Sustainable Development Commission).
Other activities included the re-launch of the Nottingham Declaration, a tool designed to help councils deliver their climate change commitment. Every council in Northamptonshire signed the declaration at Expo 2006 joining Nottinghamshire - the first to have all councils signed up in the country. An award ceremony also took place for a regional school competition which centred on shopping for the future. Prizes were awarded to the winning schools by the Mayor of Derby and Rammie, the Derby County Football Club mascot.
