Organisation: LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming)

Location: Around the East midlands

Duration: Ongoing

Summary: LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a charity helping farmers improve their environment and business performance and create a better public understanding of farming through a nationwide network of demonstration farms, innovation centres and the LEAF Marque.

LEAF Demonstration Farms are working farms carrying out Integrated Farm Management (IFM).  They are selected against stringent criteria and, by carrying out IFM, achieve environmental benefits, produce safe, wholesome affordable food, as well as maintain a viable farming business.

The national network of LEAF Demonstration Farms and LEAF Innovation Centres welcome visits from a broad range of individuals and organisations interested in farming and food production such as farmers, environmental, wildlife and consumer groups as well as teachers, MP’s and MSP’s.

LEAF Demonstration Farms and Innovation Centres are volunteers who invite a wide range of groups to explain ‘what they do and why they do it’.

Background: Integrated Farm Management (IFM) is all about linking environment and farming. IFM is a whole farm approach providing efficient and profitable production which is economically viable and environmentally responsible.  It integrates beneficial natural processes into modern farming practices using advanced technology and aims to minimise environmental risks while conserving, enhancing and recreating that which is of environmental importance.
