State of the Region

Welcome to the East Midlands Regional Assembly's 'State of the Region' report web pages.

 

The State of the Region Report for 2008 web pages is now complete.

 

The Regional Assembly charts the progress in achieving the sustainable development objectives of the region's Integrated Regional Strategy Framework. It looks at the change that has occurred in the region's performance and benchmarks the region with the nation's performance.

 

Did you know?

  • Homelessness in the region has decreased and is below the rate for England
  • 35% of household waste is recycled or composted, exceeding the 2010 target of 30%
  • There has been a significant increase of businesses with broadband - 53% in 2006, exceeding the target of 20% by 2010
  • 70.9% of housing development in 2006/07 was on previously developed land, exceeding the regional target of 60% by 2021
  • The number of businesses and schools with travel plans has increased substantially
  • 49% of school trips in the region were made on foot in 2005/06 compared with the national figure of 46%

By keeping the State of the Region information updated on an annual basis, we are able to:

  • Provide a common understanding across the region of different issues where quality of life in the region is improving and those where there is still work to be done
  • Provide the partnership perspective for the region in identifying current and future key issues and challenges
  • Build on work undertaken by a range of regional, sub regional and local partners
  • Provide headline messages for policy makers to support the development of strategies and policies that best meet the needs of the East Midlands
