This strategy has been developed by a partnership of key stakeholders within the East Midlands and the Regional Assembly looks forward to continuing to develop the partnerships required to ensure we prevent the production of wastes and manage the residues as sustainably as possible.
This is the first Regional Waste Strategy to be produced for the Region. It sets out to identify the key issues we must address and seeks to provide a robust framework to allow the East Midlands to move towards the sustainable production and consumption of goods and the recovery of as much value as possible from the remaining waste.
An important aspect in delivering this agenda is the need to provide a robust framework for the rapid development of the new waste management facilities that will be required to recover, recycle or otherwise treat wastes that do arise in the future. In this respect, the strategy builds on the land-use planning principles and priorities set out in Regional Spatial Strategy for the East Midlands.
