The Milton Keynes & South Midlands Sub-Regional Strategy (MKSM SRS) was published on 17th March 2005 by the first Secretary of State. The purpose of the document is to provide a clear, agreed, sub-regional strategy for the period 2001-2021, and a long-term spatial vision for the sub-region towards the year 2031, as part of the Government's Sustainable Communities Plan.
It also provides guidance for delivery bodies on the scale, location and timing of the development and the associated transport, employment and social infrastructure needed to achieve the vision of sustainable communities. The draft MKSM Sub-Regional Strategy was published by the Regional Assemblies for the South East, East of England and East Midlands in July 2003. An independent panel was appointed by the First Secretary of State to conduct an examination in public of selected matters arising out of the draft strategy.
The consultation period for the draft strategy ran from 18 July to October 13 2003. 1627 responses were receives from individuals, bodies and groups. 130 participants were invited to a public examination before an independent Panel which was held over a period of five weeks in Northampton, Milton Keynes and Luton. The Panel's Report was published on 2nd August 2004. Consultation on The First Secretary of State's proposed changes ran from 26 October to 23 December 2004. Overall, 426 representations were received.
Copies of the Strategy have been distributed to all Participants at the Examination in Public, libraries, Members of Parliament, Members of the European Parliament and Local Planning Authorities.
Milton Keynes & South Midlands Sub-regional Strategy Annual Monitoring Report
The Milton Keynes & South Midlands Sub-Regional Strategy Annual Monitoring Reports are currently produced by Northamptonshire County Council on behalf of the three Regional Assemblies. They contain a range of data from a variety of sources. Much of the data is supplied by the three Regional Assemblies, based on data collected from the various district and borough councils in the sub-region.
The purpose of the annual report is not only to record patterns of change, but also to identify whether further action is needed in the light of that assessment.
