Government response to Prosperous Places front cover

On 25 November 2008, the Government's response to Prosperous Places: Taking forward the Review of Sub-National Economic Development and Regeneration was published.

Statement from Stuart Young on the Sub-National Review, November 25, 2008

Stuart Young, Head of EMRA, said: “We are pleased that the Government has made its announcement on the Sub-National Review.

“We will need to consider the full implications of the Government’s proposals and will work with our partners, particularly local authorities, stakeholders, emda and Government Office, in order to agree a way forward that supports the future prosperity of our region.

“We welcome the key role of local authority leaders in the new arrangements but are disappointed that there appears to be no clear, ongoing role in the future for the very worthwhile work we have undertaken through the regional scrutiny process."

"The Government’s proposals will require legislation that is not expected to take effect until March 2010. The Regional Assembly will therefore continue to deliver upon its role and responsibilties until that time.

“This is a busy time for the Assembly, with the partial review of the Regional Spatial Strategy, the regional funding advice process, continued support for emda in delivering the regional economic strategy and work with the Government to deliver dualling of the A46. We are determined to continue to play a key role.”
