Derby College

Derby College, alongside 5 other Colleges in the East Midlands, is member of the Innovation in Sustainable Pathfinder Construction project that aims to enhance and ultimately encourage sustainable innovation in construction. Derby College’s area of specialism is ‘Modern Methods of Construction and off site Maunfacture’ and provides consultation, advice and support on new technologies in this area of construction.

Due to the Government’s Energy white paper that is consistent with the Kyoto protocol, it has set challenging targets to reduce the UK’s Built Environment Carbon Footprint. Through new initiatives and legislation changes, Derby College’s concentration within the Pathfinder Project is focusing on the following

Products and Processes:

  • Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)
  • Timber Frame
  • Pre Cast Reinforced Concrete
  • Pre fabricated Steel Frame
  • 2 D and 3D Multiple and Volumetric Components

Many manufacturers now exist in the UK with the Skills, Knowledge and capacity to develop further and to meet the ever increasing demands to have internal comfortable environments, airtight, thermally efficient carbon neutral buildings. It is now the time for all involved in the Construction Industry to embrace these new products and processes for all our futures.
